Iris van Herpen

Dutch designer Iris van Herpen, has captivated the fashion world by her use of 3D printing and creative materials. The Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh, PA  is debuting the Haute Couture Designs of Iris Van Herpen now through May 2017. I personally could not wait to see this exhibit. My first love is Haute Couture. It is the height of creativity in the world of fashion. Although some pieces are just for artistic expression, it provides a blue print to branch off into ready -to- wear lines.

Iris Van Herpen studied fashon at the ArtEZ Institute of the Arts Arnhem and later became the intern of the late Alexander McQueen, another desiging genius. Iris's first love was dance. Which explains the flow of her designs. Personally, walking through the exhibit made me feel like I was reading a very good book from begining to end. Each piece was a chapter that told a detailed story. You could literally sense what season, and natural scenery she drew inspiration from. The materials used were carefully crafted and sown. My husband who is a professional welder attended the exhibition with me, I was able to experience the collection from a very different perspecitive. He explained what certain materials and tools can be used to create these awesome looks! Which made this experience even more jaw-dropping. I love the mind of Iris van Herpen. She doesn't think traditional, she thinks outside of the box. She does not stay too attached to her designs, she says after the collection has left her hand whether an exhibit, tour the "collection takes on a life of it's own" tells another story.......Iris only makes two collections a year so if you have never experienced seeing Haute Couture you definitely want to head to this exhibit. It's a must see......
